Greek PaintingThe ancient Greeks were master artists. Their paintings and statues have been admired for hundreds of years. Examples of these works are still displayed in museums around the world." (World History Ancient Civilizations) Many Greek paintings were inspired from their myths or sports like the Olympic competitors or Greek gods and heroes. The paintings were made proportional so the characters looked realistic. A popular style of painting was painting a red vase with black gloss to make a design. The other way the Greeks painted the red vases was that they covered the whole vase with black gloss and then chip it away to reveal the red. The Greeks were also really into creating designs with geometric symbols.

Roman PaintingOne of the types of art Romans made were frescoes. “A fresco is a type of painting in which paint is applied to wet plaster and then left to dry.” (World History Ancient Civilizations) Many Romans made frescoes and portraits. The portraits were made personally for the subject being painted so viewers can know a lot about the subject’s personality. Roman art decorated many parts of the buildings they made like the walls, the ceiling, and the floor.
